Google Zeitgeist 2011 – Rebecca Black, Google+ Are the Top Searches

Google released ‘ Google Zeitgeist 2011 ‘, a Google report of the fastest changing and most popular online searches of 2011. It reveals the most popular and the fastest rising terms—the terms with the highest growth in 2011—in many categories across many countries around the world.
YouTube sensation Rebecca Black, Google’s new social network, Google+, and Jackass star Ryan Dunn, are the fastest-rising search term globally.
Web celeb Rebecca Black was the #1 fastest rising query globally, as fans searched for information about the “Friday” singer. She wasn’t the only songstress to capture international attention this year: Adele made the fastest rising lists in over 15 countries spread across five continents, in addition to claiming a spot on Google global list. Reality star Ryan Dunn , defendant Casey Anthony and tech luminary Steve Jobs also in the list, as people of interest took five of the top 10 spots.
When looking at the data, it is fascinating to see the cultural fads and trends that took over the globe, from cupcakes (making top food lists in over a dozen countries) to the Dukan diet and high-profile weddings, but Google was used for much more than staying up to date on the sisters Middleton and Kardashian .
From local celebrities in Finland to Singaporeans looking for news on the revolutions in Egypt and Libya half a world away, people turned to Google to learn more aboutwhat was happening on the world stage. It wasn’t just the man-made moments that topped the charts this year, but also the natural disasters that literally shook the world, from Hurricane Irene in the U.S. to the earthquakes in Christchurch and Japan .
Google Zeitgeist also provide the region-wise and country wise lists too. Google Zeitgeist 2011 India reveals the list of most searched terms in India. It shows top 10 lists in different categories like Top Searches, People, Movies, News. Facebook, IBPS, Anna Hazare, Poonam Pandey, Bodyguard, Ra.One, IPL, Katrina Kaif are the most searched terms in India. Read More
Terms related to the Japanese earthquake showed up on lists from almost half of the countries included in the 2011 Zeitgeist, including Japan, where earthquake toppedthe country’s fastest rising list, and Google global list, where TEPCO , owners of the Fukushima Daiichi power plant, became the first non-Latin term to ever make our global fastest-rising list. In addition to news about what had happened, people around the world also looked for ways to give: In the U.S., the top three searches related tocharitable giving were about helping Japan.
Exciting to see what people in other countries search for—from the most searched for Swiss mountain peaks in Switzerland to soccer terms in Argentina and the stuff of Italian dreams . Dogs always beat cats on lists of popular pets, and in Russian the most searched for pet was pygmy giraffes (which don’t really exist but are very cute) and in the U.S., sugar gliders made the list.

Facebook Timeline Goes Live for All Users

Facebook Timeline - transforming the user profile into a virtual scrapbook that shows everything you done on facebook in a timely manner, is now available to all users. Beta version of Timeline was first launched for developers on late September.
Instead of merely listing your interests and personal info, the Timeline shows a detailed overview of your life on Facebook, with the ability to check out what you’ve been out to at a particular point in time.
Timeline comes with a new tool called the Activity Log, which enables you to finely tune what appears on your Timeline; you can “promote” a post to featured status, you can hide it from the Timeline or delete it altogether.
Timeline will also be available on Android devices as well as the mobile version of Facebook – m.facebook.com.
Like all major Facebook redesigns, Timeline was greeted with a fair share of criticism. Some users were concerned about Facebook’s request that users add even more personal info, as well as the fact that Timeline makes this info easily accessible, which could lead to identity theft.
Facebook is implementing a seven day grace period, where you can review anything that appears on the timeline and decide whether you want anyone to see it. However, once you upgrade to Timeline, that new profile will “go live” at the end of the seven-day review period.
